Treadmill 5.5 mi @ 7:57 mtd 39
Decent run on the treadmill. I'm finding that every time I get on the treadmill, I want to keep the miles down and do a tempo run. I was planning on an medium effort 10 miles, but ended up pushing it a bit and doing shorter miles. Felt good though.
The winter/spring race plan is just about set. In registered for....
1/1/12 Lowell New Years 10k
2/26/12 Hyannis Marathon
3/19/12 New Bedford half Marathon
4/16/12 Boston Marathon
and possibly the old fashioned 10 miler in February.
So looks like I'll be focusing more on roads than trails this winter....

Soup Group - 7 miles @ 8:30 mtd 33.5
Ran with the soup group today. We had another record turnout with about 23 people showing up. The run was at the hopedale parklands in memory of the passing away of Larry Olsen.
The run was fine. I had a little bit of tendon wonkiness going on behind my left knee, so I'll have to keep an eye on that.

Trails at Callahan - 10 miles - 1 hour 45 min (10:30/mi) - mtd 14.5
Today was supposed to be a day off for me, but I got a text from Dan Davin this morning asking if I wanted to run. I haven't run with Dan in like 6 months (he's been sort of locked in on swimming), so couldn't pass it up. Then he said he was up for trails, and it became a no-brainer! Dan is faster than most of the people I run with (me included!) so we did a good brisk, but not painful 10 mile loop at Callahan.
We had absolutely GORGEOUS weather. (still running in shorts in a tech shirt in December, so no complaints!
Friday December 2nd, 2011 - Good News!!!! (i think..)
I'm running the Boston Marathon again in 2012!!!
I got the official word last night at my club's monthly meeting that one of the club's 8 Boston numbers is going to me! I didn't think I'd be doing Boston again for two reasons. First and most importantly, I didn't know if I'd be able to get a number. I missed out on the opportunity to run for the Alzheimer's Association again this year because I missed the application deadline. The only other possibility was running with a club number. The club usually gets 10 numbers a year from the BAA, but this year they only got 8. A bunch of club members put in their names for those numbers. The choices are made based on club involvement over the past year and somehow I ended up #1 on the list! It looks like another winter of cold snowy Saturday morning long runs for this guy.....

Treadmill - "speedwork" 4.5 miles - 34 minutes (7:33 pace) - MTD 4.5
I wasn't really sure what my workout was going to be today. I just knew that I wanted to stay off of the roads because yesterday's 11.5 mile road run left me a bit sore. (an unfortunate side effect of "coddling" myself on the trails for the last few months!) Started with an easy 1 mile warmup, and then cranked the speed up to 8.3mph (7:20 pace). Felt good after a mile so I bumped it up to 7:10 pace for a mile and then 7:00 for a third mile. Finished off with a 1/2 mile cool down at 7.5mph. It was great to do something speedy for a change! I'd like to make this type of workout a once a week thing.
